Lakes Entrance

home away from home...the cottage we are staying in at Lakes...as the locals call  it!

Lakes Entrance

Today we drove to Nungurner where descendants of the Akers Family lived and farmed in the early 1940's....this shed at Nungurner holds a special place in a special person's heart...Lorna Akers.  We also visited an organic stone fruit farm where Graham in particular had a great old time.....we left with hefty bags of apricots and peaches which are truly delicious, just like we used to have!

Lakes Entrance

Easy drive down to the cottage we are staying in for the next five days.  Overlooking the lake with black swans and pelicans.  The weather is messy, little bit of rain and overcast.  I took this picture as the mist came across the lake.

Pumpkin Patch

These pumpkins were carved as symbols of our past.  The Snowy River flats once grew huge pumpkins.  When the river flowed, pumpkins had been carved out and children could float downstream, five at a time inside the pumpkins....oh for yesteryear!

Orbost-Heart of the Snowy River Country

I had an interesting walk around Forest Park this morning while Graham was acquiring info from 'Slab Hut'

Orbost Victoria

Orbost Information Hut
We left Merimbula this morning at 10am, had an easy drive down to Cann River where we had lunch.  Obviously the place to stop as there were a lot of caravaner's & motor bikes doing the same thing.   We turned off the Princes Hwy. and drove into Merlo where the Snowy River meets Bass Strait.  Lot's of fishing is the go in this area.  We decided to stay the night in Orbost, have a look around tomorrow before heading off to Lakes Entrance which is only about 60km.  On the way into town we saw these geese, went back to get a photo and they were already locked up, goosy gander was having a lot to say when I took this photo...hope to catch them out under the wagon wheel tomorrow!

Eden

Eden Killer Whale Museum

Pilot Station from Eden Lookout
We had heavy rain this morning but ventured out anyway to Eden.  A visit to the Eden Killer Whale Museum was very interesting with the story of  'Old Tom' a killer whale, his skeleton is the only one on public display in the southern hemisphere.  Whaling was carried out in the area from 1828 to1930. A google search will give you the history, it is a fascinating story of  'Old Tom'.

Bodalla

All Saints Anglican Church - Bodalla
We decided to travel 7km over a dirt road to see Pebbly Beach, in the Kioloa State Forest just before Batemans Bay. Apparently kangaroo's take over the beach but I think we were a bit early for them, not one in sight. Nice place to camp!
We visited the Bodalla Dairy Shed and purchased a litre of fresh cow's milk (just milked the cow's this morning) some yoghurt and cheeses.  Could not believe they are able to sell milk straight from the cow's!
We are staying the night in Narooma.

Ulladulla-Bodalla-Narooma

On our way through Ulladulla this morning we walked the 'One Track for All' created by the Budowang Aboriginal Group. There are two tracks...the track we took is about 1km long with these wooden carvings, the workmanship is amazing as is the story they tell.

Mollymook 20th February 2013

These lorikeets were very inquisitive this morning while we were having breakfast.  Woke to rain this morning - cleared this afternoon.  Went for a drive down the road to Ulladulla, only 1km away.  Otherwise a lazy day with walk along the beach this afternoon.

Minnamurra Rainforest 18th February 2013

Today we went for a drive through lot's of lush green countryside on our way to Minnamurra Rainforest where we did the Rainforest Loop Walk which is 1.6km.  Lunch at the Jamberoo Pub, lovely old fashioned pub with heaps of football memorabilia all over the ceiling & walls. Then to Saddleback Mountain Lookout for a spectacular view of the coast line.

I was in luck at a warehouse clearance shop in Kiama, purchased several items!!

16th February 2013 Sydney

We had a good flight into Sydney and no dramas driving out of the City.  We turned off the Princes Hwy onto Grand Pacific Drive through the Royal National Park.  The Seacliff Bridge is amazing!  Drove on a little further to Sharkeys Beach, fish & chip lunch overlooking the bay with lot's of container ships in the distance.
