Today started out bleak 0 deg. did not improve very much top temperature 6 deg. Lorna & Graham reckon it's time to leave Canberra before we freeze to death. They have not got long to wait! I am not poking my head out the door for the rest of the day. It is now 3.30pm.

Rusconi's Marble - St. Marie's Cathedral Paris

Gundagai to Canberra 7th June 2010

Before leaving Gundagai we visited the Information Centre where "Rusconi's Marble Masterpiece" is on display. It is truly a magnificent achievement. Here is the story behind it's construction - A unique Gundagai attraction is a miniature cathedral, sculpted by monumental mason Frank Rusconi. ‘Rusconi’s Marble Masterpiece’ took him 28 years of spare time work to create. It contains 20,948 individual pieces of marble, each one cut, turned and polished by hand. Every piece of marble is sourced from NSW, and the model was intended to showcase the beauty of NSW marbles, which Frank Rusconi maintained equaled more widely-known European marbles for beauty & utility.

Another Rusconi creation is a small replica of the alter of Saint Marie’s Cathedral in Paris. Rusconi & 3 other men constructed the original altar while he was working in Switzerland. On returning to Australia he created the miniature replica from marble collected from around Australia, working four hrs. a day for 7 years.

Frank Rusconi was instrumental in the creation of the Dog on the Tuckerbox and he sculpted its original plinth.

Historic Prince Alfred Bridge & Gundagai Railway Bridge

Gundagai 6th June 2010

Before leaving Rutherglen this morning we called in on one of the cousins Christine & Ian. Ian breeds all types of birds, he has some rare Black Cockatoos, Rosella's, several breeds of parrot's, all very colourful. Some of the towns we passed through were Howlong, Jindera & Hollbrook before arriving in Gundagai around 3pm. Graham is off checking out the local RSL Club!

Rutherglen 70th Wedding Anniversary 5th June 2010

70TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY DORIS & TOM MORRIS -
8TH JUNE 2010

What a wonderful gathering of family & friends to celebrate this milestone. Graham had a good old chit chat with Robert (son of Doris & Tom) who picked fruit in Tasmania with the Cleeland boys back in 1963. Also met some cousins for the first time, so plenty of swapping address's etc. The happy couple have recently become great-great grandparents. Just to give you an idea how warm & welcoming the gathering was it started at 12pm. finished at 6pm.

Yackandandah-Woolshed Falls-Autumn Leaves 4th June 2010

Yackandandah-Beechworth

Thank you to all who rang & sent messages. We spent the day touring around the area which is all very picturesque. Our first stop was at Yackandandah where we visited the Historical Museum. This caught my eye -the local women of the area made 108 plum puddings to contribute to the Coronation Celebrations of King George Vll in June 1902. The local celebrations went ahead but the coronation did'nt as the king became ill. It was the only written acknowlegement of all the work the women put into the occasion!!! From here we drove onto Beechworth & thank you David for the tip the pies were scrumptious. It's a gorgeous little town. Heading back to Rutherglen we came across Woolshed Falls just out of the town. Now back at the cabin doing the office work for the day and deciding what to do this evening, probably go down to the pub.

All Saints Estate Winery, Rutherglen, Victoria.

Rutherglen 3rd June 2010

Lazy start to the day, nice and crisp morning. After the housekeeping was duly attended to we set off to do some necessary shopping then to visit one of the many local wineries. This one was established in 1864 called All Saints Estate which has been renovated. I did not indulge on this occasion, bit too early!! As you can see the drive and surrounds are very nice. After lunch we went for a visit to Auntie Doris & Uncle Tom, much reminiscing and viewing old photo's. They enjoyed the company.

Rutherglen, Vict. 2nd June 2010

Heading out of Corryong this morning we encountered some very thick fog for several kilometres. It cleared into a beautiful sunny mornings drive and the scenery is easy on the eye. We are staying in the caravan park here in a cabin overlooking the lake. Graham has gone off the visit one of the relatives while I do some updating.

Corryong 1st June 2010

After leaving at around 9.15am we headed for Cooma. The information centre there advised the best way to Corryong was through the Snowy Mountains. The larger towns we went through were Jindabyne, came to Kosciuszko National Park permit booth & much to our surprise we had to pay $16 for a day pass to stop & have lunch in Thredbo, it was worth it just to see the village. After lot's of up hill & down dale the next town was Khancoban, beautiful rolling green hills & contrast's of colour over the landscape, very pretty before arriving at Corryong where we are staying tonight. Very, very cold.
This picture is overlooking Jindabyne.

Canberra 31st May 2010

Lorna & I waiting for a cab before heading into the City with Graham. Just a little bit of shopping before meeting Kate for lunch. Then headed off to pick up the hire car (all 3 of us walked past the office, several blocks before Graham left Lorna & I on bus seat to go back & find it! Then the challenge of finding our way out of the city back to Holder, took the long way, not deliberately! As it is Kate's actual birthday today some friend's came over for nibbles & drinks so as Kate said 'these 3 day birthday's are good'.
